About Gordie Howe Sports Complex
At Gordie Howe Sports Complex, we’re about rising to every challenge and tackling obstacles head on, because we know that adversity builds character. For over 60 years, we’ve been inspired by the attitudes of our athletes, whose will to be better pushes them further.
As a hub of sport in Saskatoon, we’ve seen history made here. Thousands of Saskatchewan athletes have come through our doors and onto our fields. And each of them has emerged better through every practice, every game and every test of perseverance.
The drive of our athletes has motivated us to transform this place into a world-class sports centre that is shared by Saskatoon and the surrounding area.

Our Namesake, Mr. Hockey
On March 31, 1928, Gordie Howe was born in the small town of Floral, Saskatchewan. At just nine days old, he and his family moved to Saskatoon where he would be raised.
Little did anyone know this young boy would change the game of hockey — forever.
Gordie passed away in 2016 at the age of 88, but not before putting up the kind of fight is now famous for.
In his career he scored 801 goals, a record that stood until 1994. His supreme performance on the ice earned him a reputation as a hockey powerhouse.
When he finally retired in 1980, his iconic number 9 was retired along with him. As a tribute to Gordie, we’ve memorialized the revered number 9 in the GHSC logo.
His incredible legacy and Saskatoon roots are the reason we chose him to be our namesake.
