$500,000

1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation

Directors with the 1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation were excited from the moment they heard about plans for Saskatoon’s 66-acre Gordie Howe Sports Complex.

They immediately saw expansion of the complex as revitalizing the sports community and increasing Saskatoon’s ability to host a multitude of events, recalls Foundation Director Catherine Gryba.

The self-help volunteer attitude was another factor” leading to the Foundation’s generous contribution of $500,000 to the community facility, one of only three capital projects the Foundation has supported in its 30-year existence.

The 1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation is honoured to be naming the welcome plaza that will greet athletes, spectators and other visitors to the track and field complex, the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval, Cairns Baseball Field and (future) Nordic Ski Park.

The gathering place in the plaza is of great importance as it welcomes people to a multi-sport venue, keeping with the theme of the Canada Games being a multi-sport event,” says Catherine.

1989 Jeux Canada Games Foundation Directors are extremely proud to help advance this incredible community complex that will benefit athletes in a diversity of sports!
